Our exclusions.
The under-listed medical conditions and procedures are not covered by the Scheme.
Reasons for exclusions
Why some services are not covered
- Some services are fully funded by government.
- Some services are general health insurance exclusions, as they are unregulated and open to abuse.
- Other services are overly expensive and would cause an extraordinary increase in premiums if included.
Services & Providers
Services from non-contracted service providers (except in emergency situations)
Health services funded by government, e.g. immunisations, treatment of Tuberculosis, Onchocerciasis, Buruli Ulcer, HIV treatment and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Vaccines, except anti-tetanus, anti-snake and anti-rabies (the hepatitis B vaccine is not covered, but treatment of hepatitis B or any other hepatitis is covered)
Complementary alternative medicine, e.g. acupuncture and osteopathy services
Herbal treatment, except at the Centre for Herbal Medicine at Mampong or any Ghana Health Service accredited facility
Mortuary services
Self-request & Medications
Patient self-request for investigations and medications not prescribed by a qualified health practitioner, except over-the-counter medications for emergency or first aid treatment
Vitamin C, Zintab, iron supplements, all immune boosters served over the counter, and self-treatment for Covid-19
More than one month (30 days) supply of medications
Soaps, shampoos, creams/lotions, facial cleansers, and all other cosmetics and toiletries
All medical devices and appliances, e.g. thermometers, BP apparatus, glucometers or test strips and neck collars (glucometer test strips for insulin-dependent diabetes ONLY are covered)
Condoms and contraceptive pills (IUDs, bilateral tubal ligation and vasectomy are covered)
Medical Conditions & Procedures
Undeclared pre-existing long-term/chronic medical conditions or medications before registering with the Scheme
Medical examinations for visa applications, police reports, employment, insurance, schools, etc., and unauthorised (annual) medical examinations
Fertility and assisted reproductive tests and treatment, including treatment for sexual disorders, and tests for hormones and hormonal treatment related to fertility
All cosmetic surgeries and implants
Congenital abnormalities such as Down's syndrome, cleft palate, etc.
Test for allergies
Other disorders such as eating disorders, alcohol disorders and substance/drug abuse disorders
Therapies for obesity or weight loss
Waiting Periods
Treatment for pregnancy within the first nine (9) months after registration — kindly contact the Scheme if you want this to be waived for you (not applicable to corporate clients)
All planned surgeries within the first six (6) months after registration with the Scheme (not applicable to corporate clients)
